Thanks to /usr/bin/girl and the TV and Movie Theme Archive, I took trip down memory this afternoon to revisit some of my old favorite cartoons.
Every now and again, my friends and I will have one of those “remember back when we were kids” conversations, and when we talk about what shows we used to watch (and bitch about how most stuff put out today sucks in comparison), I rattle off a few shows that just get me blank stares. I try and explain them, but it never helps.
Anyway, while I was flipping through theme songs, I noticed the cartoon section a decided to take a look. Lo and behold, there were the title tracks from Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, Pole Position, and Galaxy High School, just to name a few. In a strange way, I felt 8 years old again listening to them.
But that just mae me hungry for more. I extended my search to see what other cartoons from my glorious childhood I could unearth. My search landed me at the self-proclaimed “Official site for today’s 80′s kid”, 8ca.net, and much to their credit they had quite the list.
I found all of my Saturday morning favorites, such as the previously mentioned Galaxy High and Pole Position, along with Lazer Tag Academy, Turbo Teen, and the Saturday Supercade, which was actually seven cartoons in one.
I had almost forgotten about that one. ^_^
Then there were all the after school favorites, like M.A.S.K., Silverhawks, Centurions, Star Blazers, Robotech, and Voltron. These are the shows that my friends and I emulated, putting ourselves into the lead rolls. These are the shows that inspired the toys that I just HAD to have.
I was still one show short though. But you can find anything on the net, and a web site devoted to Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors is no exception.
It’s amazing how a simple theme song can bring back so many memories and promt me to write a novella about them.
