Computer off, vocal chords on

Friday, December 29th, 2000

Another weekend without the computer, and another weekend hanging out with some of my co-workers. Coincidence? More than likely, but a welcomed one anyway.

Tonight a few of us are going to brave the suposed 10 to 14 inch onslaught of snow (I’ll beleive it when I see it) and check out Ants Marching, a Dave Matthews tribute band down at the The Headliner. Last time they played there was a blast, so I’m expecting a good time tonight.

The only other plans I have this weekend are tunneling out of my house Saturday morning, and cleaning the place up for my first ever New Years party come Sunday night. I just have to remember to have the "no puking" signs in place, otherwise I might have a big mess on my hands…. ^_^

Say howdy to Earl....

I’d like to introduce you to a friend of mine. His name is Earl, and he’s trying out to be the spokesman of a national organization. Pretty good, considering that Earl was just born this morning, but he’s quite confident. He knows quite a lot about everything, hence his smug little grin. Earl was a product of my imagination and Photoshop’s paintbrush tool.

Earl reminded me how much I used to love to draw, and what a shame it is that I stopped. I used to be really good back in my formative years (also known as the 8th grade), but once I got to high school, I became more interested in computer aided drafting than portfolio art. Sad, I know.

So now “learn to draw (again)” is on the official to do list for 2K1, and the world has Earl to thank for it. Then again, the world just might want to lynch Earl if I start flooding the net with my crude illustrations. Time will tell, I guess. ^_^

Rumor killing 101

Well, if anyone does eventually buy Sega, it definately won’t be Nintendo, so says their president.

Unlikely, but still interesting

Wednesday, December 27th, 2000

Granted it’s a very unsubstanciated rumor, but there was a story in the NY Times today that Nintendo is in talks to buy Sega. Considering all the other rumors I’ve heard about Sega getting out of the hardware end of the industry and selling games on other platforms, I could actually see this happening.

Holiday recap

Tuesday, December 26th, 2000

A very merry day-after Christmas to you all! I would have written sooner, but once again my computer is in the shop. <sigh> Anyway, it was a fairly interesting weekend, so I figured I’d give you the holiday recap:

Friday Night
After by little above fender-bender class accident earlier in the morning, I needed to unwind, so a few of my co-workers and I headed for the Dublin House in Red Bank, a nice little bar with that authentic irish feel to it. Not like I’ve ever been to a REAL irish bar before, but I guess this is what one would be like. ^_^

I got to know Nick, Jason, and Robin (the afformentioned co-workers) a lot better, played some pool (rather poorly, I might add), and I did nothing to break the raging drinker stigma I have forming at work. I must have downed at least six hard ciders without ever feeling it. Could it be I’m developing a tolerance? God I hope not. Alcohol is expensive enough with zero tolerance….

Saturday
What happens when you wait until two days before Christmas to start your shopping? You do suprisingly well with your gift buying! Once again I tempted fate for the holiday season, but with the exception of having to wait on some lines that were quite ungodly in their lengths and sales clerks who missed their "How to fake politeness" classes, everthing went extreemly well. And to top it all off, my Giants grabbed the top seed in the NFC playoffs. Will wonders never cease….

Sunday
Ah, Christmas Eve. I look forward to this night almost as much as I look forward to Christmas Day itself…unless I have to work for three mind-numbing hours at my part-time job. Oh well. I did get my first Kyuss CD at Jesse’s house afterwords as I spent many an hour bullshiting with my friends. Think Santa might have been a little pissed that I didn’t walk in my door until 3:30 in the morning?

Monday (a.k.a Christmas)
Usually you have to physicaly toss me from my bed to wake me up on Christmas morning, but for the first time in about a decade or so, I was the first one up in my house. The day’s bounty included the new COC Album along with the final Cowboy Bebop DVD, so I got what I asked for. What more could an overgrown kid want?
