I wish this pain upon no man

Sunday, September 30th, 2001

There are probably better ways to spend a Sunday morning than thrashing around in an emergency room, but lo and behold, that’s just what I found myself doing as I started passing my second kidney stone in the last nine months.

Do I know how to party or what? ^_^

Moving pictures on the subway walls

Friday, September 28th, 2001

Next time you take the subway and see something in the tunnel that resembles a television commerical looking back at you, don’t worry — you’re not losing your mind. You’ve just witnessed a new marketing trend: "in-tunnel" advertising.

Not unlike a flip book, the ads are basicly lighted pictures that line the tunnel walls and seem to move when viewed in rappid sucsession. They began in Europe this summer, and Atlanta debuted theirs yesterday. The Port Authority of NY and NJ has signed on to place the ads on the PATH system, but no timeframe is set.

Treating customers like criminals yet again

The record industry is playing around with a new type of CD that’s ‘ripping’ resistant. It has the regualr tracks that are modified so they can’t be thrown onto your hard drive, and tracks in Microsoft’s Windows Media format which can be set to restrict how they’re used.

Why do they keep trying to do shit like this? Not only will the hackers find a way to break through their anti-ripping scheme (just like they do with every other type of copy-protection scheme), but they’re helping Microsoft establish another monopoly, which the record industry is scared to do in the first place. Then again, no one ever said that those in charge of the music industry had any brains in the first place. ^_^

There’s a chill in the air, the leaves are turning colors, The West Wing‘s third season is starting tonight…sure looks like Fall is here. ^_^

(Note: West Wing’s debut was pushed back to Oct. 10, so my Fall officially starts on that night. ^_^)

Almost official

The U.S. is close to providing proof to the world that Bin Laden was involved with the Trade Center attack. Once it does, it’s bye-bye Binny! But Bush isn’t just sitting around waiting for the dots to be connected — today he froze the assets of 27 terrorist organizations and urged the rest of the worlds’ banks to do the same.

And in related news, the Stock market snapped it’s losing streak. You didn’t think it would keep falling, now did you?
