India and Pakistan are about a hair’s breadth away from going to war over militants making cross-border attacks in the Kashmir region, which has been in dispute long before I ever graced this planet with my presence. What makes this situation all the more frightening is the fact that both of these countries hold nuclear strike capabilities and very itchy trigger fingers.
I’m going to take a wild guess and say this is getting close to kind of feeling that was in the air back in the days of the Cuban missle crisis. The fact that this is happening half a world away provides me with very little comfort. I may be naive for saying this, but why can’t we all just get along? Why must there be such hatred in the world? Why? Just why?

I could talk forever on this subject, but I will keep it brief. The nukes that they possess are short range weapons, that can only reach each other. The Cuban missle crisis was scary, because they too did posess short range weapons, but they were long enough to get to Florida. Now with Russia as a part of NATO, we can hopefully help them out to try and rebuild that country and also keep a better eye on them, so that the longer range and more deadly nuclear weapons will not leave. So there will be no immediate danger to the US in that aspect as there was with Cuba. As for the war between India and Pakistan. This is going to happen sooner or later. The Muslim militants have done plenty of damage to that land, destroying 3000 year old statues that this world will never see again. The disagreement over land all falls back to the basis that I have seen for many different wars. Religon and Land. Until humans can sit there and get along with each other on the basis of religon, not try to force their beliefs on others and respect the need for others space, there will never be peace.
yes their missels are short ranged but fallout isn’t.
Short range, long range, they still would be using them on this planet in a conflict (i.e. without the attempts to minimize environmental inpact that are taken when "testing" these monstrosities). The reprecussions will be felt everywhere at one point or another.
Can’t we just get these people to take a "time out" and simmer down a bit? Wishful thinking I know….
Both countries go to your respective corners and sit in your “time out” chairs for eternity!!
Do you think these people really care what they do to the enviroment? They have no care about that what so ever. All they care about is the land that they feel is theirs. It goes along the lines of something like “By any means neccesary”, which is exactly where this is going to turn to, enviromental or not. The thing that concerns me the most about this is that if they do end up using these weapons of mass destruction, and they end up doing a job on each other, then this might be a sign for other “wackos” to try and do the same thing. Which can be a very bad sign for us.
Don’t forget that we still have american soldiers in Pakistan. If India and Pakistan go to war, our soldiers will probably die from a war that we aren’t involved in. Not to mention the fallout that, according to MSNBC would most likely reach the us in the months following a nuclear war between the two countires. I say just cut the land in half and give each side their own half. Same with the palistinians and Isralies.
Just more reasons why religion and politics are evil…
And they LOVE their nukes over there–so much that many cities in Pakistan have statues of the weapons in their city squares!…they revere them.
one “OOPS!” is all it will take.
