Zany pictures, false smiles, and banking

Over the last week or so I’ve seen a host of ads for Washington Mutual promoting free checking, better banking and so forth. Standard fare for advertising. But the ads they choose to prote their bank do very little for me. They mostly consits of a zany picture (like a man in a business suit jumping for joy or a woman in a yoga position with a big smile) and the tag line “Another small ‘Revolution’ in banking”, then a key lime green area to the right where they promote one of their acpects — no minimum balance for a checking account, for example.

Quite honestly, upon seeing these ads, I feel no need to seek them out as a banking choice. In fact, you could probably drop and kind of company into that ad and get the same results. Me thinks they should hire a new ad agency….
