Thursday:
There’s nothing quite like having to work on a presentation with a deadline of the next morning and knowing that you’ll have to work REALLY late to get it all done in time — something that I should have dreaded as a self-professed slacker. Instead, I took the challenge in stride and worked from Noon til’ 6am to get it done on time.
Oh, I did take a few hours off to go see my first Queens Of The Stone Age concert over at the Roseland Ballroom with co-worker David. I went into the show knowing I’d be in for something special and I’ll be damned if they didn’t deliver.
Just about everything in the show was perfect. The stage lighting, the sound system…about the only thing I can complain about was this one drunken fan sans shirt screaming “Kyuss” at the top of his lungs who happened to settle in front of me about halfway through the show. As much as I wanted to punch him in the back of the head (and I don’t think anyone else within 20′ of this jackass would have tried to stop me) I somehow managed to refrain. I figure I needed to keep the good karma going, lest I be thrown into an oncoming subway train later that night.
After the show, I headed downtown and back to the office to work away the sleeping hours, creating screenshots of things that don’t yet exist. It was a strange feeling to be walking out the office doors at 6am and being greeted by a bluing sky when there had been a black one out the last time I checked.
When I finally arrived back home and my head hit the pillow, my clock read 9am, the same time it read when I left the morning before. The next few hours of sleep I had coming to me were well deserved.
Friday:
Once I regained consciousness around 4pm, I made a quick check to see how things were going over at the office and then started my packing for a weekend in the woods at a little thing me and the boys call “No-Maam”. A quick stop for gas and foodstuffs and I was on my way to Jim Thorpe, PA.
And for once, there was no traffic what-so-ever. I even got to see a fireworks display that was being done for some reason or another about halfway through my trip. Fireworks are always cool.
I was the second to arrive and missed being the first by a matter of minutes. Of course, I managed to forget my flashlight (kind of important if you’re going to be out in the woods) and I also managed to set my tent on top of a root so when I went to bed I had it jabbing me right in the small of the back. Figures. ^^;;
Saturday:
Saturday is usually the “go out and do something” day for those of the camping group who like to be active, but we were running with a skeleton crew of 6 and everyone was feeling more like sacking out in front of the fire and doing a lot of consuming — food and alcohol mostly. This kind of activity continued until late into the night.
If fact, the only other thing I managed to do on Saturday was pound on my drum. A lot. And loudly. I wonder how many other campers I tortured with my beats (the ones I was camping with don’t count because they’re my friends and they have to encourage my hobbies and shit like that ^_^ ).
Sunday:
Get away day. I woke up and began breaking down my equipment immediately. Inside of a half-hour I had everything back into it’s respective carrying cases without incident — always a good thing. Once we had the site all cleared away, we presented the “No-Maam MVP Award” (an empty Jägermeister bottle) and headed back for home.
On my trip home I cursed my CD player for only working half of the time (looks like I’ll have to repalce it soon *grumble*) and thanked the NFL for being back in season and at least giving me a Jets game to listen (I’d rather have a Giants game, but it’ll do in a pinch). When I got to my house, I hit the shower and then my bed for a quick little nap (all that napping in Thorpe wore me out).
Of couse, the next time I awoke it was 10pm. Some little nap! I though I’d be up for the rest of the night and was well on my way to a horribly sleep-deprived work day, but that was not the case. In fact, I had more of an issue waking up this morning than going to sleep last night. Should I be worried that there’s somehting horribly wrong with me that I need to sleep this much?
Nahhhh….
