A consortium of companies (including Matsushita, Ricoh, Pioneer, Mitsubishi, with three universities thrown in for good measure) are using use “3D” optical technology to try and

create DVDs able to hold 1.5 terabytes per disc. Current DVDs hold anywhere from 4 to 8 gigabytes worth of data as a point of comparison. Target date for this tech to move from R&D to living, breathing product is around 2010.

And along with expanding capacity in removable media comes the shrinking physical size of removable hard drives. We’re talking 80 GB of removable capacity in a 1.8 inch drive. Impressive! This tech will be start being seen in public much sooner than 2010, as in early next year. Prototypes are currently being shown off at the winter going on right now.

Some more coming at you from the eye candy department. While catching up on the back story will certainly set you back in time spent in front of the computer (chapters run anywhere from 9 to 50 minutes long, with most clocking in just under 30), Broken Saints is just an unbelievably stunning animated comic book (which they lovingly refer to as “a 24-chapter graphic literature event”). Hell, even their press kit kicks ass. Big ups to the creators on this one.

Theodore Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, had to earn a living before his revered life as a children’s book author, and that was in part accomplished by doing illustrations for ads and magazines. Still though, his unique style carries through. These companies were getting a true bargain at the time.

Good question!

At a recent White House press briefing, Ari Fleischer was hit with a great one-two punch to open the regular Q&A session:

Q: At the earlier briefing, Ari, you said that the President deplored the taking of innocent lives. Does that apply to all innocent lives in the world? And I have a follow-up.

MR. FLEISCHER: I refer specifically to a horrible terrorist attack on Tel Aviv that killed scores and wounded hundreds. And the President, as he said in his statement yesterday, deplores in the strongest terms the taking of those lives and the wounding of those people, innocents in Israel.

Q: My follow-up is, why does he want to drop bombs on innocent Iraqis?

Now who says they don’t ask the tough questions anymore?
