Long train running….

Monday, March 31st, 2003

It’s been a while since I said this to anyone, but once again I can proudly proclaim “Greetings from the 7:11 express from New York City to the Jersey Shore!” Due to something of a technical snafu with the current project the office has me working on I am more or less being forced to become a commuter again, albeit only for a one week engagement this time around.

Watching the scenery outside of the window on the way up this morning was akin to flipping through the pages of an old familiar picture book — a thousand mental snapshots flashed before my eyes from the three hundred or so similar mornings I had like it. Just the simple act of going through the motions that for so long were my every day routine brought back a touch of nostalgia for me, just a tad bit clearer this time. Memory is good, but nothing beats the real thing.

I’m planning on making the best of this more-or-less forced pilgrimage. Today at lunch I endulged in the best Gyro in all of Manhattan. Wednesday night I’ll be spending the night rockin’ out with RANA and Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey over at the Mercury Lounge — a nice way to break things back into the live music scene for the upcoming deluge of summer shows. And later this week the weather is supposed to turn for the better, which means lots of outdoor lunch breaks and after work wandering.

I also just decided that I’m making a conscious to use the extended content feature more in posts. If I’m not gonna post more often, then I’m might as well post more. More or less it’ll be a fact section; lists and stuff. Today it just happens to be the playlist that iTunes selected for my train trip this morning. It seemed to get the mix just right.

ANWR is a drill-free zone

Almost lost in all the war talk was the fact that the Senate voted against drilling in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge by a 52 to 48 count. At least that’s something to smile about.

The line in the sand has been crossed….

All the months of diplomatic posturing and military positioning has finally come to and end. Once again the US is at war.

Ever since the President’s address on Monday night and his 48 hour ultimatum, one news channel or another has served as the background sound to my day, and all of them were repeating the same mantra: war is coming, but we’re gonna let the Iraqi’s stare at the sky and make them worry about when things would start.

But wouldn’t you know it? Someone in the CIA managed to get info on Saddam’s location, and so things were sped up in an attempt to end the war before it ever really began with one shot. As of this moment it looks like the magic bullet missed it’s mark. Oh well.

At least the waiting is over. We’ve made our bed. Time to lie in it….

They even have terrorist camels….

Patriotic flash fun! Put Osama and the Taliban underfoot in Squpoosh a Terrorist!

(Hat tip to my sister Shannon for this one)

A voice silent for your beliefs is as bad as a voice raised high in opposition

With all the media attention focused on Iraq, another issue where oil is part of the equation is slipping under the radar and ever closer to being a reality: drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

As it stands now G.W. Bush is one vote away from getting his wish, which in my opinion would do much more harm than good. If you don’t want to see this happen (the article states it could be decided as early as this week), then get your ass in gear and write your senator (for those of you in New Jersey it’s these guys).
