Almost lost in all the war talk was the fact that the Senate voted against drilling in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge by a 52 to 48 count. At least that’s something to smile about.

This is a great thing to see, a point for the good guys in such a time. Mabry, my girlfriend, who is a Ph.D. student of geology, and has spent a good amount of time studying world-wide oil reserves has show to me that given the amount of oil consumption in this country and the amount of potential amount of oil in Alaska, there would only be enough oil for three years, not exactly a long term plan. I am glad to see politicians finally getting their heads out of their asses and maybe finally realizing that there needs to be more policies with the long term in mind, rather than a quick money maker (halburton).
