So it’s Halloween today. Boo or something.

Friday, October 31st, 2003

So what are you dressing up as on this holiday of bats and broomsticks? Did you manage to put in time to make your out getup? Did you at least buy a costume early enough to get a decent one? Well, I sure as hell didn’t! A lack of suitable transportation forced my hand to wait longer than I wanted to find a costume for Halloween, and as such I’m currently the proud owner of the world’s worst ninja costume. My original plans were to go all samurai — Jim Belushi style, of course — with my long hair being an attribute to exploit. Scratch that, cause this was the best I could get from a store filled with 100 screaming and infuriated procrastinators all vying for the last three decent costumes in a decimated supply.

I was so close to saying fuck the whole production it’s not even funny. Either that or strangling someone in the mile and a half long line I had to wait on. That might have helped subdue the rage as well.

Now while today is the actual Holiday itself and I do have some desire to strut around all stealth like, I’m more worried about having a halfway decent costume for Saturday night at my cousin Erin’s annual Halloween bash. I have no doubt will be great fun and I’ll feel woefully under-costumed in comparison to the insanely great getups that always seem to attend. It’s just something I’ve come to expect, so I’m not fretting or anything.

Well, maybe I can manage to supplement this piss-poor costume with some other bits and pieces. I have some time and a few stores in the general vicinity of the New York office I’ll be working from this afternoon. If it doesn’t happen then I’m not gonna lose any sleep over it, but it will keep me from dressing up for tonight when I go to catch Antibals Afrobeat Orchestra out at S.O.B.’s. No reason to go out all half-ass-costumed and whip myself into a worry when there’s great music to be enjoyed, right?

Can the master of procrastination pull off the last second costume coup? What does the rest of the weekend hold in store for our hero? Stay tuned kiddies!
