Christmas party disarray (or “How the fuck did I get HERE?”)

My first few weeks with Drumbeat Digital as a freelancer have been rather fulfilling. The work itself has been interesting, and I’m already starting to connect with some of my peers. Of course all the activity of the upcoming Christmas holiday has helped that along as well. Case in point, the Christmas Party this past Friday.

Or was it officially called a Holiday Party? Ugh, so hard to keep all this PC bullshit straight on some days. Probably as hard as it was to walk straight after I left the bar the party was being held at. You would have left in sorry shape too if you had access to an open bar.

I can’t say the details are all too clear. I know I had fun. I know I swapped some stories with my new co-workers and shook the hand of someone who shook the hand of David Bowie. I know that once I left I hopped a subway to try and get to Penn Station and instead wound up at Queensboro Plaza (take a look here to see just how far off course I was). I know I was lucky to catch the last train home and even luckier not to wake up in time to get off at the right stop.

By the time I hit the train station I was fine to drive, but when I went to sleep I gave the toxins in my system a chance to collect in my body, making my Saturday morning quite painful and sluggish. Still, what few memories I retain are good ones. You can’t really hold it against me for going a bit overboard; this was my first office Christmas party in years and I was damn sure making the most of it.

You think I should stop making the most of my party situations? Naaaaaaahhh. Where else would you get your accounts of drunken stumbling and debauchery then? Not CNN, I can tell you that. ^_^
