Music news everywhere on the digital front these days, what with the sudden proliferation of online music stores and what not. Which means file format choices are of large consequence. So to hear that Real is going to use AAC — an openly developed standards compliant format — makes me feel much better about the health of the format versus Windows Media — a proprietary format the Microsoft is licensing to majority of the other music stores that are popping up.
Also on the digital music front is GarageBand, a music creation and recording program from Apple that was released after two years or so of development as part of their iLife ’04 package. I am litterally salivating at the thoughts of all the fun I’m gonna have with this when I pick it up on the 16th. For $49 I think it’s a much bigger value than some other over-anxious apple gripers are giving it credit for. I’m considering the updates to iPhoto, iMovie and the rest a bonus.
