Turkey and Moe

So how does one go around shedding those excess Thanksgiving calories? Well, for myself it was by taking in two nights of Moe at Roseland Ballroom on Nov. 27th and 27th. Two nights, two sets each night and no opening act — certainly not for the faint of heart, but even the uninnitated could readily enjoy the performance (just ask good friend Joanna).

I spent most of my time wading through the packed crowd trying to get in as many pictures and vid clips as I could, all while soaking in the music. Both nights the band was in good form, kicking the two night stand off with a rousing rendition of “Captain America” and proceeding to blow minds from then onward.

I managed to pick up some new favorite songs, including “Timmy Tucker”, “Not Coming Down” and “Bullet” while still getting to here a fair mix of my old favorites, such as “Recreational Chemistry”, “Spine of a Dog”, “Don’t Fuck With Flo” and a massive half-hour long rendition of “Rebubula” that was intermingled with two other songs, including a haunting version of “So Long”. For those of you in the hunt for some new tunes, try searching on any one of those and I promise you won’t find yourself disappointed.

For those of you in the Vegas area looking for something to do on New Year’s Eve, you might want to pick up a ticket or two to the Moe performance out there. As for those of you local to New York I highly suggest hitting the Umphrey’s McGee show on Dec. 10th. Then again, I’m just a humble fan of kick-ass music so what the hell do I know.

  2. Nice announcement; in rhyme form, no less. You certainly picked a good show for your first experience with the band. Mine was when they were playing Bonnaroo ’03. Just listening off in the distance under some shady tree when I hear the familiar harmonica of John Popper. Well, I had to get up close to see that jam and the rest is history.

If you haven’t already gotten it, I suggest “No Doy” as a good starting point on the album collection, followed closely by “Dither”.
