80% perspiration with 15 minute delays inbound

Wednesday, June 15th, 2005

I’m feeling a little lightheaded at the moment — partially from the sweltering heat and partially from having just shot around on the basketball court across from my apartment for the past 30 minutes in said heat. The temps haven’t dropped below 80 here all night and if I’m going to be forced to take a shower to alleviate myself from the sweat that comes with such a heat wave, i might as well get a workout in the process and earn that shower, right?

I do seem to be making at least more than token use of the courts, which is a good thing. My game certainly needs the work, and the old bod could stand to be in better shape. Then again, I have yet to find when either of those statements have never been true for me, even when I’ve been at my peak in both. Maybe I just like shooting hoops in the pre-dawn light with the top of the Empire State building just peaking over the top of the buildings at Lincoln Harbor.

Oh, and you know what else’s weird? Turning on the TV to one of those god-awful morning shows, listening to the piece of eye candy up in the traffic chopper lay out the delays at the Lincoln Tunnel and actually hearing said chopper out my window. That made me laugh a bit. Then again, I’m usually easier to amuse when I’ve deprived myself of an evening of sleep. I’m funny that way.

Share the love and pass the workload

Well that was fun.

Bonnaroo 2005 is in the books, and once again I managed to survive all the excitement and make it back in one piece. The making it back part was more amazing to me as I had to manage driving through white-out conditions in freak thunderstorms during the 900 plus mile solo road trip. That part will soon fade into memory, but the fun will live forever since I managed to take lots of pictures.

Today has been a slow and sweltering build-up back into the regular routine that is my life here in Weehawaken. By the look and feel of things, I think it was actually cooler in the deep south this past weekend than it was here in the big, bad megalopolis. Temps in the 90′s when I left, and the same stale hotness upon my return. Guess it’s about time the throw the ol’ AC into the window so I can work in semi-comfort.

Now to sort through the 300 plus emails waiting in my inbox. Even some dealing with my *gasp* 10 year high school reunion. Damn, how time does fly.

I’ll sleep when I’m dead

Greetings from 600 acres of hippie infested farmland in Manchester, TN. So far everything about this little trip is going great, with two minor exceptions. It looks as though rain is in the forcast for rest of the weekend, which was somewhat expected anyway. It’s about a thousand times better than the monsoons we Bonaroovians endured last year. The other issue is the lack of enough hours in the day to fit everything in. I feel like I already did more in the first day of this year’s gathering than I did in either of the other two events.

And just wait until you see the pictures for the late night Mardi Gras parade. ^_^

Catch you all when I return to civilization. End transmission.

Helter swelter and sweating bullets — the usual pre-trip build up

Juggling many different things in a pre-summer mini-heatwave that has dropped itself into the greater New York area and most specifically right into my studio apartment. The air is literally taken from your lungs by a semi-humid hand. Your energy follows shortly thereafter.

Then again, there isn’t much energy left in the tank anyway. I’m trying to tie up loose ends on three projects before I head off to Bonnaroo later this week. Had I been diligent in my work and better with my estimating skills, I would only have two to deal with. Estimating remains my weakest link, with business management a close second. This must change, and change quickly.

Today is also a good day for cardio exercise. Well, that is to say it has become a good one, what with all the running up and down stairs to check my mailbox to see if that long awaited paycheck has finally arrived. I’m down to pasta, rice and about $8 to my name until it shows.

Half wish I was back on the beach again today. Mister Nick from Neptune started giving me surfing lessons yesterday afternoon and I managed to not kill myself. Still haven’t progressed to the point of standing on the board, or even catching a good wave, but you have to start somewhere. At the very least my pasty white skin got some color to it, so that’s good.

Par for the course.

Apple helps my feng shui and other rainy night nonsense

The title may seem a little strange, but I’ll be damned if it isn’t the truth. Ever since I got my hands on that G4 tower and rearranged my desk to accommodate it, it seems like dozens of other little nick-knacks and objects have now fallen into proper cosmic alignment. With that one addition I now have gained back precious square footage from clutter. This is all the better, because before I was going slightly mad trying to figure out how to rearrange things.

Between my possessions and the floor plan of my apartment, there are very little arrangement options that would work. My constantly breaking bike is the only little snag remaining to be taken care of, and I’m thinking that an investment in a folding bike is coming as soon as I get my next paycheck. It can’t be any worse than the piece of crap I use now, and if it does break down, it’ll be a lot easier to haul back home. My first ride of the season was probably the last on the ol’ Mongoose Wal-Mart special. I’m just glad I decided to head along the Jersey City waterfront so when it did break down I could at least take the light rail back home instead of having the walk the whole way.

As for the rain alluded to in the title, it was actually quite nice after being crammed shoulder to shoulder with all those other jamming Brothers Past fans at their Rocks Off cruise show. This is probably the last show I’ll get to see before heading down to Tennessee for the ‘roo.

The rest of the weekend is pretty packed, so expect to see some more reading material appear soon-ish.
