Blackout Karaoke

Friday, August 19th, 2005

Man, did it really take me the better part of a week to post pictures from last Saturday’s karaoke session? Damn, I guess so. i guess the real world just got a hold on me this week, eh?

These Carriage House karaoke sessions always have a theme of some kind or another. This one happened to be “blackout”, in honor of the anniversary of the northeastern blackout. Later on in the evening, having those lights dimmed just a bit was a good thing — less heat sources on a sweltering evening.

Thanks to those who took possession of my camera for a bit so I could actually be a subject in some of these shots.

Et tu, David?

Not to say that this is totally unexpected, but it’s totally unexpected! According to one Charlie Murphy, it looks like Chappelle’s Show is over and out:

“I don’t think Dave is going to do it anymore,” Murphy told the Post. “We shot about eight shows for the third season, and they’re hilarious. They’ll be released on DVD, I’m sure. But that’s it.”

And here I was hoping the man would be in my fall idiot-box viewing. Ah well, looks like it’s about time I invested in the DVDs.

New beginnings for the world weary soul

All the activity, all the excitement, and none of the sleep.

Well, at least that’s how this first week at my new job has felt like. After being untethered from the circadian rhythm of the business world for the past few months, my body is fighting me tooth and nail for those long sleep session it used to enjoy. Sorry buddy, but this is a fight you’re not gonna win. I’ll give you that extra hour of sleep when daylight savings ends, but until then you’ll just have to suck it up and deal.

Really, that’s about the only down side so far. I’ve got a new neighborhood to explore for little hidden treasures on my lunch breaks. I’ve got a whole host of fresh, friendly faces that I have to try to remember names for. And I have a basket full of fresh, interesting work to dive into — the first official deadline has been unofficially set and I’m back in the groove again. For now I’m splitting time between one of their office PCs and my PowerBook, but a new computer has been ordered and should be in my clutches soon enough.

Elsewhere in the world, I’ve been busy going to far too many shows and posting visual results for you all to drink in over at my other hobby site. Had I known that the first of August would be bringing with it a new job I might not have bought all those tickets in the start of July. Oh who am I kidding? Of course I would have bought them!

As Donny-D would say: “sleep when you’re dead”.
