Catching up and cutting down

Friday, October 7th, 2005

Well, first off, the haircut turned out not to change my outward appearance all that drasticly. About 3 inches or so trimmed from the ends and it’s still down a bit below my shoulders. At least it’s a little cleaner looking. Still, it was nice to sit in that barber’s chair again. That fresh cut feeling is the one thing I miss about having short hair. Shots will show up sooner or later, though tellign the difference will be difficult.

As you may be able to tell from the sudden bursting of content here, I’ve finally got my desktop system up and running with some consistency again. For some reason my G4 tower — the same one I threw a ton of cash and a great many upgrade components into — keeps forgetting it’s startup drive, which usually translates into lost evenings for me trying to either fix the issue or wiping things out and starting over. This time around I’ve found a plan C to fix things, so keep your fingers crossed that this is is the last time I have to do any major fixing for a while.

Tonight is also catch-up night over at The Outer Edges, as I posted pics from the last two shows I went to (The New Deal and Helmet respectively) and as I write I’m in the process of recording episode 16 of the posdcast. Only two weeks between episodes! See waht a broken ‘puter does to your recording schedule?

Also, I’ve come to the decision that I might want to shelve my freelance projects this winter so I can concentrate on my own things. Outside of the work I’m doing at Lime Group (which will start to see the light of day this month), I feel like nothing is getting done. Lesson to learn: don’t spread your schedule too thin, or else you won’t have enough time for anything.

Jungle Karaoke

Katherine and Mike singing at Jungle Karaoke - October 1, 2005

This past Saturday was another red letter day in the history of karaoke singing. The reason for the gathering was Katherine’s induction into “Club 28″. Some new faces joined in on the festivities, along with all the usual suspects.

Also, while there’s not much video, I will share with you this one clip. You miss the first half of the joke, but I think the punchline is funny. Those from my old Jersey Shore circle that have known Oppie will catch this one instantly. Enjoy.

Bowling with the hippie - September 29, 2005

So what is there to do on a Thursday night in New York? Oh, there are many intriguing and chic places to be, where you rub elbows with athletes and movie stars. The Port Authority Bus Terminal is not one of them. However, if you want to put on interesting looking footware and hurl 16 pound chunks of urethane down long wooden lanes, it’s a great place to be.

Yup, you just can’t beat bowling at the bus stop. Especially when you have a good crew on hand. A bakers dozen of participants, which was a better turnout than I could have hoped for. We’ll be doing it I’m sure. A lot of thanks for these photos goes to Don, Mike and anyone else who also took the camera from me during the events. This was a group effort.

Oh, and for the record all this fun was had two Thursday’s ago on September 29th. Would have had this stuff up much sooner, but the Mac with all my photos on it forgot how to boot itself and I had to wait until I could fix it to get this stuff up.

Haircuts and cursed impatience

Looks like I didn’t wait long enough to upgrade my iPod. Looks like the long rumored video iPod might be announced soon. I held out on upgrading until after the last major announcement, which only saw that cute little nano being debuted. Crestfallen that there was no video release, I went the next day and got myself a color 60 GB baby.

I guess Steve Jobs wanted to stretch out the releases to make sure one didn’t overshadow the other, and rightly so. And I guess I either have to see if a return and/or exchange is possible, live with my purchase, or see if someone wants to buy an almost new iPod from me so I can get the new one.

Oh, and I think sometime before this week is out my shaggy head is going to see the inside of a barber shop for the first time in 2 or 3 years. No, the long locks aren’t going away, but I think they should be cleaned up a bit. Before and after shots to be presented soon.

The things my brain comes up with when I’m trying to sleep

Tuesday, October 4th, 2005

It’s late, I’m tired, and yet I’m running a paraphrased Job Corps commercial slogan in my head on infinite loop:

How does get experience without a relationship,
if one needs a relationship to get experience?

Anyone got a semi-solid answer out there? The grey matter would like to know.

On an unrelated front, I’m not sick anymore.
