Mostly cats and ninjas

Wednesday, March 22nd, 2006

I’m finding it rather easy to get sucked into YouTube.   Last night I found myself  flipping through cat videos, spurred on by seeing the first one on TV last night.   So far as I know, no cats were harmed, though a human might have been.

But while cats are nice, urban ninjas are better.   Just check out this wanna-be stunt man’s clip real.

  • Urban Ninja – Seriously, how does one learn they can do crazy shit like this?!?

Uptown party

Wednesday, March 22nd, 2006

Saturday night I had the pleasure of hanging out with a rather nice group at an apartment party celebrating Dan’s 25th birthday and Dan & Jonah’s offical apartment warming party for their upper west side digs. Quite memorable, at least from what I can remember. Got to hang out with former coworker Lauren for a while, which was a nice plus. Even saw a staged fight on the building’s front door security channel — complete with head waving and thrown jackets. All in all a good night out.

I mean, can’t you tell in the pictures?

Back to my roots on St. Patrick’s day

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

Due to a kitchen renovation in progress, my cousin’s annual St. Patrick’s Day party was canceled, leaving me with a hole in my schedule and an opportunity to sieze. As luck would have it, Donny had the notion of celebrating the holiday properly — in our favorite Irish Pub, the Dublin House.

We certainly weren’t the only ones with that bright idea. There was a 30 to 45 minute wait in line to even get in the front door, though they were nice enough (not to mention smart enough) to set up a bar outside where you could get a few Guinness’ while you waited. Maybe you saw it on News12, cause they had a newscaster freezing her ass off cover it.

Turned out to be a pretty good night. My sister came along with some of her friends from work, Nick and Vivian came out as well, and I got to hang out with Pete for the first time in a while.

Guess who’s who in the following pictures.

The last car payment

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

It feels like it’s taken forever to reach this day, but it’s only been a scant 5 years, 7 months, and 4 days since I entered a state of indentured servitude to own a car that wouldn’t break down on me.   Just a mere 2,042 days from that fateful day I drove off the lot, pleding my life and $300 or so a month.

But today, I’m am happy to say that I’ve just sent off the last of those payments.   In about three weeks I should be receiving the title in the mail for that battle-scarred chariot that sits outside my apartment, attracting road grime and the occasional punk-ass vandal.   Not too shabby for a man who has always had trouble with his money and once lost said car to the repo-man.

Right now I’m contemplating framing the title and hanging it over my desk instead of putting it in the fire-proof box with all my other important documents, but I’m sure that insane notion will fade.   In fact, it’s already getting kind of fuzzy….

The wild wind

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

Well, the warm snap was nice while it lasted.   The wind whipped down the palisades like a freight-train outside my window, hauling car after car of savage, pre-historic monsters in the midst of a ravenous hunger.   The gnashing of teeth and scraping of claws drowned out only be the howling and screaming of the beasts in transit.

This morning’s feature:   Return of the winter coat.   Hopefully it’s just a limited engagement.
