Rain, wind and sponsorship

A rainy Friday night (which will turn into a rain soaked Saturday, thereby killing the Bar-B-Q I was going to), and I find myself inside, playing Madden ’07 and helping to get one of my friends into online gaming. I wasn’t even going to buy the PS2 version, since I’m going to get me one of those sweet-looking Wii‘s, but this rivalry of ours goes all the way back to ’91, and I’ll be damned if I’m gonna break tradition and not trade ass whoopings on account of me waiting to get a new toy.

The game plays much better than last year, but what really gets me is the paid product placement. Snicker’s sponsored Player of the Game. Sprint drive summaries. Hell, to even play online you have to agree to either pay two bucks a month or give your email to ESPN and they’ll “pay” the charge for you. Hey EA, isn’t my $50 enough? Damn them and their addictive monopoly on NFL-licensed football!

But oh, is it ever addictive. More so when my beloved Giants are actually good….
