Earlier this evening I donned the suit and tie for my great-aunt Ann’s viewing. Yet another family member on my dad’s side of the family that I have little to no recollection of. Still, he tells me that the title of great Aunt applied not only to her relation to me, but also to the kind of person she was, and I certainly do take his word for it. It seems that she lived a rather full life, so I wish her family all the best.
This was also a chance to see the side of my family that I don’t see often enough. In fact, the last time I saw many of those faces was at the same funeral parlor. While there were quite a number of faces I didn’t know, those that I did remember did not seem to have aged since the last time (at least that’s what my aunt Nancy and aunt Mary-Ann told me). Regardless, I felt much more at ease this time around than the last.
I just hope the next time I get see these faces, it’s not when we’re saying goodbye to another family member, no matter how full a life they’ve lived.
