I go back into the dentist this afternoon to cap off — in porcelain — the work on my first ever root canal. Besides being stuck in a chair with my mouth open for three hours, occasionally choking on my own spit, things went fairly well. A lot better than I had imagined back when I got the horrifying news at my cleaning a few weeks ago.
While the thought of repeating the process over, and over, and over, and over again is not the real appetizing, it’s not freaking me out like it was last week. At this point, the only thing really scaring me is the price tag — even with dental insurance.

ug..i have a checkup on monday. every time i go my mouth feels like it’s been punched repeatedly for 30min.
Man, I had about 5 root canals done over the course of a year about 2 years ago. I was really nervous about the first one, but was fine after it. It is amazing how far along dentistry has come in the past 10 years or so. But, yes, the bills are what really hurt. Good thing for credit cards and a low monthly payment.
Jon: Yeah, I hear you. Those cleanings are a real pain. Funny how my teeth didn’t hurt before they were professionally cleaned.
Spee: Credit…cards? What are these things you speak of? I have none of these beyond my debit card. I guess I’m just lucky that the dentist’s office is willing to work on a payment plan.

Ya know whats funny? I didn’t go to the dentist for like 11 years. No cavities. I start going regularly, my teeth start falling out. Coincidence?
Don: I have to agree to some point, but do you think that maybe that 11 years of non-visits meant that your teeth were really just being held together by their own decay? Kind of like a rusty girder or something? ^_^
Honestly, no. If the dentist had found all this stuff on my first visit back then I would say yes. However, it was a gradual downhill spiral that did’t start until after some regular visits. Boo ya ka sha!!!
