The office I work at is great, unless you talk about the temperature inside the rooms on the 3rd floor. Unfortunately, those are sub-leased from lawyers who control the thermostat, while our compatriots on the top floors can actually do something about their climate. Meanwhile we are at the whim of these…these…lawyers!
Lawyers who freeze us with A/C in the winter, or deep-freeze us in the summer. Lawyers who bolted the windows shut, but still left gaps stuffed with rags that allow enough of the prevailing elements in to drive us mad. Lawyers!!!
Well, okay, so maybe it’s not all as bad as I say, and perhaps it’s more the office manager’s fault than the actual litigators. Still, today it was bad in the other extreme. The unexpected appearance of summer weather in late April turned my office into a sauna today, and there was not so much as a hint of breeze from the cooling system. By day’s end, I was starting to sweat through my T-Shirt — sexy! I just love going home from work on the subway all drenched in sweat. I’m starting to think I work from home more often than I should for the simple fact that I can’t control the temperature in my apartment to a greater degree than I can at the office.
You better believe I’ve got my windows open tonight while I do the freelance thing for a forthcoming May 1st deadline. Something for someone else’s site, of course — like I do any work around here anymore….
