What did you expect from free tech support?

Well, some tech support I turned out to be! Seriously, if you have a computer issue and you’re thinking of asking for my help, you might be better off turning somewhere else. And why do I make such statements? Well, because somewhere between replacing a failed hard drive and reinstalling Windows Xp on his system, I inadvertently wiped out his external back-up hard drive.

Oops! Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig oops!!!

Of course, oops doesn’t even come close to making up for that gaffe. Had I been smart and observant, I would have made sure said external hard drive was disconnected completely before I started wading through the DOS-like setups screens dealing with disk partitions. Had I just paid more attention to what I was doing, I probably would have avoided this. Instead, I’m doing searches for partition recovery software and keeping my fingers crossed that somehow or another we’re going to be able to recover things from the original failed drive without having to take it to a pricey data recovery specialist.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go do some web work. Maybe if I’m lucky, I’ll wipe out a few more disks full of valuable information and find my true calling as a minor villain with a computer theme to fight against some costumed vigilante.
