Three Things for Today: Oct. 26, 2007

Fraud, flushing and facing Jon Law with a GPS log file in hand:

  1. More proof that the current administration is circling the drain came in the form of a FEMA press confrence regarding the current California firestorm disaster. A press conference in which FEMA Workers acted as reporters posing questions!
  2. Now this is certainly a unique attempt to get out of a speeding ticket.  A teen out in Cali is going to pit the radar gun vs. his GPS receiver.
  3. I certainly would have thought about this simple way to convert any toilet into a low flush toilet.

Waterproof and Eco-Friendly Concrete?

Friday, October 26th, 2007

I have to say, this sounds like quite the little product, and a great example of green tech being better than its substitute.  Hycrete has found a way to make waterproof concrete, which will greatly its versatility and longevity as a building material, improving how and where it can be used.  What’s more:

Hycrete allows contractors to not use plastic membranes, which in turn lets the builders earn points under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards. The more LEED points you get, the greener your building is.

Green tech is better tech.

An Ounce of Anticipation

Friday, October 26th, 2007

I stopped by the Apple store in SoHo after work to pick up my copy of OS X Leopard.  I was greeted my a line from Prince St. to Houston (a long city block for those who don’t know NYC that well) and a steady rain.  But within 15 minutes I was in the store, given a souviener t-shirt, paid for my software, and on my way home.  For all the confusion, it was quite a smooth transaction.

But it’s been hours, and still both of my computers sit as they were when I got home.  I’m about 15 minutes away from installing on my PowerBook, just waiting for the last little bits to be backed-up.  Seeing as how a good chunk of my livelyhood is wrapped up in those bits and bytes, a measure of prevention is certainly due here.

I’ve waited this long, so what’s a few more minutes?  But the waiting is almost over….

Pondering crazy toons, OS porn, and the lack of a quality axe:

  1. Like Calvin & Hobbes?  Why not get a gander of some of creator Bill Watterson’s earlier artwork?
  2. Gizmodo got their copy of OS X Leopard and have liveblogged their first impressions (with pictures), for those of us who have yet to get our hands on a copy.
  3. There is a severe lack of the proper kind of axe for a certain kind of Halloween costume.  Shocking, if you ask me.
