Run with the Kittens

“Blue Flame”

Found this one more because of the interesting visual style of the video, but I kind of dig the song as well. This fast, loud, and energy-packed minute and a half is a product of Canadian rockers Run with the Kittens.

Your Musical Intermission: Death From Above 1979

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

While I was cleaning out my email this afternoon, I came across one from Last.fm which included some links to music videos they thought I would like because of my listening habits (which you can dig into here).

While the song and video are not new by any means, the visuals are new to me, so I thought I’d share some of the (already broken up) indie rock/synth rock duo Death From Above 1979, playing “Romantic Rights”:

The Weakerthans @ Webster Hall

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

Along with the radio taping last night, I also managed to head out and check out some live music in the form of Canadian indie rockers The Weakerthans out at Webster Hall. You can check out the shots I took over at Flickr. Big thanks to David for the free pass in — it certainly helps when you’re still a day away from pay day.

The show itself was pretty good. I was getting a bit of that alt-country vibe mixed in the usual style I hear in Canadian rock (I kept coming back to The Tragically Hip in my mind, though the vocal styles were nowhere close). The lyrics were very solid and there were some very rock-and-roll moments, such as four men holding their guitars aloft while punctuating the drumbeat with power chords.

I’d suggest some tracks to listen into, but hell if I know at this point. Give me a few weeks to get some material to review and then we’ll talk. Of course, if anyone out there has some recommendations, by all means….

Sound and Visual Stimulation

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

Two Mikes have recently brought some new sounds across my ears, complete with animated videos to accompany (a sure-fire way to catch my attention).

Mike #1 is my friend from Hoboken who made mention of Archive’s "Again" over a game of darts this past Friday night.

Mike #2 is the mad blogger over at the LimeWire Music Blog, who was pretty high on the merits of Chromeo’s "Bonafied Lovin".
