Ch…ch…ch…ch…changes…

Friday, March 5th, 2004

Over the upcoming days you may notice some hiccups here and there with the site. See, I decided that My time with CI Host is over and done and I signed up with Dreamhost to become the new home of Fischler.org, along with other projects that are finally starting to move.

The first such project is to spin off my portfolio into it’s own site, brand it as a business and get to making with the freelance work. The domain is up, as is the placeholder. The design and content will come shortly. This will also give me a chance to show off some of the work I’ve done in the last five months or so — arguably my best work to date.

With my new host also comes a lot of new features that I plan on integrating into the site, so eventually this place will start becoming a more vibrant, living, breathing site that it is now. I’ve got goose-bumps from the possibilities — quite geekish for me to say, but I gotta be what I am. ^_^

My mind for sale! Memories on the cheap!

Monday, January 19th, 2004

So, notice anything different here today? Well, some of the more astute regulars might have noticed a new option on the site navigation menu; a little something called Memories. This is going to be my equivalent of a photo album on steroids since I intend to include more in depth writing and video where I can. It should make for an interesting mix once I start filling up the pages.

For the moment there is only one thing available for watching: a lovely video recap of the first two days of my epic summer vacation (you remember me saying something about that, right?). I plan to add much more and I had always intended to start with the written word and then start posting photos, but I just had so much fun working with the new version of iMovie that I wound up finishing the video in the matter of a day or so.

More videos, photos and stories from a wide range of events both public and private will begin to fill these pages. I mean, I’ve got a brand new album and it’s high time I start filling it up, right? ^_^

All dressed in its best birthday clothes….

Friday, August 15th, 2003

Everyone wish a happy 4th birthday to Fischler.org! It still amazes me that I’ve kept this thing going this long, but what’s more amazing to me is that it’s been over two years since I’ve updated the look of the site.

Um, strike that last point. New design for ya!

For the time being I’ve scaled things back to just the weblog and the associated archives, and even then it’s still somewhat bare bones. I will be working to update and add other sections, starting with my “For Hire” section so I can start shopping myself out for freelance web work. To be honest, the impending need for new revenue sources is the real reason I started this redesign; it just so happened that this refresh came on the site’s anniversary. Ah, the power of capitalism!

You will notice a few content changes in particular. For one, the new “Worth reading & Seeing” list, where I’ll start keeping a more frequently updated log of things that catch my interest, but that I might not what to write up a grand dissertation on. Also there’s a new “Recent comments” list in the sidebar that shows at a quick glance of who’s been commenting on what so you can keep track of active threads more easily. I’ve also brought back the comments pop-up window on the home page (by popular demand, I might add).

While this is a big leap forward, I’m still not completely satisfied with the results here. Then again, when am I ever satisfied with it? I’d say the new look is around for at least a few months, though it will be in flux for a while (my CSS code is still has a few hiccups cross-browser and there are issues keeping things from validating properly). I have plans to change hosting providers sometime in the near future, so I may use that as an excuse to launch a new design upon the masses.

So, what do you think of my new digs? Quite a view, eh? ^_^

Where’d we go?

Thursday, July 10th, 2003

Seems as though the management here let the whole domain name re-registration slip through our collective fingers (all 10 of them). Oops! But things are now ship shape and we (that’s the royal we, as in me, as in I) have purchased the rights to Fischler.org for the next 2 years.

So when the site goes dark two years from now, you’ll know why. ^^;;

Pardon the interruption in service…

…but at the moment I’m engaged in a massive amount of work in an attempt to save the company I work for. Don’t worry, I have much to tell you all about: a trip to North Carolina, my final dealings with the legal magistrate of Little Silver and so on and so forth. Not to mention the ever-lingering new design with I promised and never delivered on (I’m a perfectionist, what did you expect?).

And the world keeps on turning….
