Spring cleaning led me to a scrap of paper upon which I had franticlly scribbled the name of an album and band, in which order I could not initially determine.  A Google search or two later and I was viewing the above video — “Atlas” — by math rock outfit Battles.

The visuals alone would have been enough to make the band’s name stick in my mind, but the song also managed to cut a groove into my sub-conscious.  The subsequent search for the album “Mirrored” left me waiting for a CD from Amazon — a rare occurrence for me days, what with the plethora of online music stores.

Anyway, good things come to those who wait.  The entire album is just sick!  Avant-garde sounds pour forth from their instruments in all their complexity.  Too much.  The fact that the former drummer from Helmet is part of the mix is just the topper for me.

“If I Were A Bee…”

As Ze Frank pointed out, “Isabella Rossellini is a genius”.  I dare you to go watch some of these Green Porno shorts and not laugh, wince, and learn something.

Facebook In Reality

While I may be a Facebook user, and its an order of magnitude better designs than MySpace, it has grown to annoy me in its own special ways.  This video by Idiots of Ants does a good job of poking fun at some of my own personal gripes much better than I could.

The Empire Strikes Barack

In honor of Tuesday’s primaries in North Carolina and Indiana, the management would like to draw to your attention this little video — “The Empire Strikes Barack“.  We are unabashedly in favor of Obama, and while we’re sure Hillary would make a decent President, we see truths about her combative political style in this Star Wars inspired recap of the battle for the Democratic nomination.

Remember to vote, kiddies!

Idiots and Angels

Part of the perks at my work are tickets to films at the Tribeca Film Festival, which ends today  This time around I got to enjoy Bill Plympton’s Idiots and Angels — a deliciously twisted little piece of animation.  A tale of badly behaving, self-centered people whose lives are turned inside out by a set of angels wings.  Really, I can’t do the film justice with my description, so just watch the trailer:

Rating: 4/5 — definitely worth watching if your a fan of Plympton’s previous shorts.
